The transparent factory

Visual arts exhibition curated by Marc Villanueva Mir

One of the first shots in the history of cinema is the exit from a factory. Filmed in 1895 by the Lumière brothers in front of their own photographic equipment factory, the famous sequence shows us how, in 45 seconds and at the moment of crossing the threshold, the workers cease to be a homogeneous group and become a scattered multitude.

Taking as its title the research by the artist Octavi Comeron on art and post-Fordism, The Transparent Factory invites us to rethink our relationships with work and leisure in an increasingly digital and automated world. In the transparent factory, it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish when we are inside and when we are outside. The pieces that make up the exhibition invite us to think about the automation of gestures, the routines of video games, the bodily memory of work, voluntarily exploiting ourselves, and wasting time. And, in parallel, they also question how our relationship with images is transforming as a way of approaching reality.
