What is the circus? This project represents a further step in escarlata’s research towards an increasingly stripped-down and playful language. Here, the circus is not a matter of talent or training, but of how we look at the world around us.

Ròdols i cigrons is conceived as a living archive of films, where circus, cinema, and celebration become indistinguishable. The backbone of this piece is a pair of virtual reality goggles, which escarlata transform into a circinema that balances between individuality and collectivity. Steering clear of the more alienating aspects of this technology, the performance is conceived as an endless celebration, a communal act of transmission and memory. It is a tribute to Federico Fellini, Wim Wenders, Béla Tarr, Pinito del Oro, Tortell Poltrona, Claret, and so many other fellow travellers who have been part, in one way or another, of the adventure of understanding life and circus.
